Survivor Justice: Dismantling the Abuse to Prison Pipeline for Women and Girls

March 13, 2025 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Survivor Justice: Dismantling the Abuse to Prison Pipeline for Women and Girls
This webinar will discuss the criminalization of women and girls — especially women and girls of color — who experience gender-based violence (GBV). The punitive response to survivors unjustly discredits, blames, and punishes women and girls survivors. After completing this session, participants will understand:

  • Three main pathways into the justice system for women and girls who are victims of gender-based violence;
  • A range of protective laws that can help prevent or mitigate survivor-criminalization;
  • Factors that contribute to unjust outcomes for women and girls who survive gender-based violence;
  • Black girls’ perspectives on what they experience and what they need; and
  • Resources and potential solutions to work toward ending the pipeline.

Presenters:

Rebecca Epstein, Executive Director, Center on Gender Justice and Opportunity at Georgetown University Law Center

Dr. Sydney McKinney, Executive Director, National Black Women’s Justice Institute

This webinar is free for all to attend. The webinar will be recorded and the recording will be made available exclusively for MAC members.
